Special Region of Yogyakarta

The Geological Heritage Area of Yogyakarta is a wealth that we must guard together. 9 locations spread in several places in Yogyakarta, of course each region is very unique. It needs special care and attention to maintain its sustainability.

Yogyakarta has a variety of uniqueness and privileges. Not only the beautiful landscape, it turns out Yogyakarta save the geological evidence that gives us a geological history period story of Java from the Java Island early formation until the time of Modern Volcano.

Based on the regulation of the Governor of Yogyakarta Number 115 2015, Yogyakarta has 9 geoheritage area:

1. Gosen Eocene Monument, in Gamping Sleman.
2. Lava Pillows Blessed, in Sleman,
3. The ancient volcanic sediment of Ijo Temple, Sleman.
4. Kiskenda Goa in Jatimulyo, Girimulyo, Kulonprogo,
5. Manganese Mining Area in Kliripan, Kokap, Kulonprogo.
6. Gunungapi Purba Nglanggeran, Gedangsari, Gunungkidul.
7. Wedi Ombo-Siung beach area, Tepus Gunungkidul.
8. Bioturbation Site of Ngalang River, Gunungkidul and
9. Geological Area Gumuk Pasir Parangtritis, Kretek, Bantul.

In order to ensure a dynamic effort to defend the existence of Geological Heritage and its value by protecting, developing and utilizing it as stated in the Regulation of the Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region Number 115 Year 2015 on the Preservation of Geological Heritage Area, the Decision of the Secretary of the Special Region of Yogyakarta on the Establishment of Conservation Forum Geological Region of Yogyakarta Special Region-based Community.
